Communities In Schools is working beyond school walls to connect our kids to the caring adults and community resources that they need now more than ever! To do that, we will do whatever it takes and go wherever we’re needed. Read more about the ways our coordinators are making a difference…

In Allentown School District…
Across our community schools, our coordinators are helping families overcome language barriers and navigate technology divides. Many are using our CIS Family Needs Survey to assess what students need most while some create bilingual “how-to” videos to help families with the unexpected pressures of the COVID-19 crisis, like filing for unemployment after a layoff. In our middle schools and high schools, coordinators are keeping up with virtual check-ins while our program manager at the ReEngagement Center continues to keep re-engaged students on track to earning their diplomas!

In Bethlehem Area School District…
At our elementary and middle schools, our team is on the front-lines of communication with students and families with some supporting language translation, some coordinating virtual group supports, and others creating shareable videos about social-emotional learning. Our high school coordinators are checking in with students regularly and connecting them to what they need most while supporting juniors and seniors as they prepare for post-secondary education!

In East Penn School District…
Our Site Coordinators are creating virtual spaces for case-managed students to find mental health resources, use social-emotional learning supports, and schedule one-on-one check-ins. We’re partnering with NAMI LV and other community partners in hopes of setting up virtual group supports!

In Easton Area School District…
At our community schools, our teams are coordinating virtual after-school programs, offering translation support for families and teachers, setting up large donations of food & essentials, and creating “office hours” for families to connect with them. Across the middle & high school, our team is offering translation services, virtually tutoring students, and helping teachers and guidance counselors connect with families who need us most. We’re helping the high school’s Aevidum Club meet virtually so students can continue to support their peers as they face mental health challenges!

At Lehigh Career & Technical Institute…
Our Site Coordinator works alongside guidance counselors to meet with students virtually and connect them to the resources that they need most!

In Reading School District…
Our team regularly checks in with students while helping them access virtual learning and enrichment. At Southern Middle School, our Site Coordinator is creating a virtual Parent Advisory Council to provide a safe space and support to caregivers!

In Whitehall-Coplay School District…
Our Site Coordinator is virtually checking in with case-managed students – regularly assessing their needs. We’ve used our CIS Family Needs Survey to evaluate food insecurity and technology access across the middle school while partnering with other agencies to distribute meals!
