At Communities In Schools of the Lehigh Valley, our mission is simple: surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. But what happens when our communities are broken? When discrimination pollutes the institutions and systems that our students have been asked to respect and trust? When a jog around the neighborhood or a car ride with friends threatens students’ lives because of the color of their skin?

Surrounding students with a community of support means that we must raise our voices for the elimination of systemic racism that makes those communities unsafe for our black and brown employees, students, families, and neighbors.

The CIS Lehigh Valley board of directors and staff are united in our stand against racism, injustice, and violence against people of color. But it is also our responsibility to act. We are committed to listening, learning, and dismantling the deeply rooted racism that still very much exists across our communities.

We see you. We hear your pain and anger. We stand with you.
